Sheila Carrier
Hello, my name is Sheila Carrier and I’m the Director of Building Blocks of Windsor. I have been with Building Blocks since 2010, starting as the Assistant Director, then as Director in 2015.
I graduated from Endicott College with a degree in Advertising/Marketing, spending my summers in college as a nanny for two small children. My employment background includes ad layout & marketing with The Daily Business Review newspaper in Miami, FL.
After moving back to CT, I was a stay-at-home Mom, serving as PTO President at my son’s elementary school as well as writing/editing the quarterly newsletter for the school community. I then worked part time teaching sports to preschoolers at the Farmington Valley YMCA as well as working in the Wellness room. I spent two years as a JumpBunch coach for several daycares/pre-schools in the Farmington Valley area (including Building Blocks!).
I have a daughter & son, both adults now that I’m extremely proud of. My husband & I are slowly getting used to our empty nest! I love spending time with my family and friends, reading, traveling, yoga, skiing, camping & gardening.
I enjoy the daily interactions with the children and getting to know the many wonderful families that we’ve had the fortune of welcoming through our doors each day.

Carrie Abare
Hello, my name is Carrie Abare and I am the Assistant Director at Building Blocks of Windsor. I have been working here at this location for 23 years. In the past 23 years I have had many responsibilities. I first started working as an assistant teacher in the infant and toddler classrooms and then permanently stayed with the toddlers in the One’s classroom, eventually becoming the head teacher. In addition to my responsibilities with the toddlers, I had the great opportunity of planning and running the summer camp program for 10 years. Approximately fifteen years ago I was asked to be a Co-Assistant Director of the program. I was able to continue my work with the children and also oversee some additional management tasks. I now work primarily in the office but still love helping out in the classrooms and remaining involved with the children.
I have been working with children for as long as I can remember, more formally starting in High School. I received my CDA certification from Capital Community College and I also have my CT Head Teacher certificate. I take great pride in developing and maintaining positive relationships with all of the children, parents, and staff at Building Blocks of Windsor.
Family is very important to me. I am the very proud Auntie to 12 nephews, nieces, and godchildren. Spending time with them and attending their concerts, sporting events, and other activities is my number one priority. I love all types of music and attend lots of concerts. I also coach youth soccer and basketball. When I am not at work or visiting with my nieces and nephews one of my favorite pastimes is enjoying a day at the beach.
